The Doraleh container terminal will add four post-Panamax cranes by mid-2027, the latest in a multi-phase expansion targeting cargo flows linking the Red Sea to inland East African markets.

Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority confirmed the procurement, valued at approximately $180 million.

The expansion is expected to lift terminal throughput by twenty percent, easing pressure on the Ethiopia corridor that carries the bulk of landlocked imports.

Operators say the upgrade will also accelerate cold-chain transshipment for South Asian retailers.
